It's Greek Unity Week here at Grove City, which means that all the Sororities and Fraternities are having pledge week. And that means that there are large groups of girls/guys walking around wearing the same thing, staying together, and doing various random tasks to join their Sorority/Fraternity of choice. Although I personally do not think that selective groups that require "initiation" are necessarily the best idea, I'm not going to go out there and protest that our college has them.
What really disturbs me is that the majority of the girls pledging are pledging for Gamma Chi and Tri-Zeta. Now for those of you not familiar, these are the two most notorious Sororities on campus. And these girls are put through extreme emotional and physical stress and embarrassment just so that they will be accepted by the group. How sad it is that here at a Christian campus we have people who feel the need to be accepted so much that they would go through such a harmful ordeal! And on top of that, many of the actions are illegal in both at GCC and/or in PA. I know that the movie The Skulls was about secret societies not Greek organizations, but,"If it's secret and it's elite, it can't be good".
